Patrick Johnstone

Patrick Johnstone

Johnstone, born on September 11, 1938, in London, England, didn't know the Lord as a youth. When he attended Bristol University, a fellow student revealed the teachings of Jesus, and this information transformed Johnstone's future. After graduating with a chemistry degree, Johnstone taught, then left for Bible School. His service took him to southern Africa with the Dorothea Mission.

In Africa Johnstone married his wife Jill and they had three children. Operation World started as an impetus for the Dorothea Mission's Week of Prayer for the World, with the purpose being to reach out through prayer to those in countries untouched by God's Word. This edition had such a tremendous response that it was translated in various languages for world-wide distribution. Now, an eighth edition is in progress. Johnstone then became Director of Research at Worldwide Evangelisation for Christ (WEC) which plants churches in places that may not have had access to the gospel of Jesus Christ. The couples' travels sent them to Southeast Asia and the Pacific before returning to England where Johnstone worked to make information readily available to new recruits and missionaries.

Johnstone continued his work after Jill died and later married Robyn Erwin in 1995 who works as his partner in WEC International affairs. Johnstone is also co-leader with John Robb of the Unreached Peoples Track of the AD2000 and Beyond Movement. He currently works on the upcoming edition of Operation World and the next World Christian Encylcopedia.
