Norton Juster

Born on June 2, 1929, Juster was greatly influenced during his childhood by his architect father. Growing up, Juster enlisted in the U. S. Navy before starting his career. A professor of architecture and environmental design at Hampshire College until 1992 and co-founder of an architectural firm in Massachusetts until he retired, Juster somehow found time to write. Though architecture remained the top priority, Juster penned books for children such as The Phantom Tollbooth and The Dot and the Line, which were both made into animated short films by Chuck Jones. His book The Hello, Goodbye Window won a Caldecott Medal for Chris Raschka's illustrations in 2006. Juster continues writing and sometimes goes to schools and bookstores to talk about his stories.
