We will be closed Thursday and Friday this week. Happy Thanksgiving!
With Thanksgiving on Thursday and all that it entails, it’s pretty hard to forget that Christmas is right around the corner.
Have you done your Christmas shopping yet? No?
Well.
Here’s a lovely Icelandic tradition that may just make your Christmas shopping a bit more exciting. It’s called Jolabokaflod, which translates to “Christmas Book Flood.” Sounds fun, right? Dangerous, perhaps?
Iceland publishes more books per capita than any other country in the world. Icelandic people love books. And this is, in part, due to their Christmas Book Flood tradition. Here’s how it works. On Christmas Eve, families exchange gifts: a new book and a bar of chocolate. Then they all retire early and spend the night reading.
Awesome, right? This amazing tradition has its roots in World War II. The restrictions on importation of paper were not as strict as the restrictions on other imports, so books emerged as the choice Christmas present. And it has stayed that way!*

What do you think? Want to add a new tradition to your family’s Christmas festivities? Right now is the perfect time to stop by Exodus and pick up some new books. We have fiction, literature, and picture books on sale for 20% off**, and our coloring books are at 25% off through the end of December!

**A few exceptions apply (as usual).
