Lucille Travis

Lucille Travis

The daughter of William and Florence, Travis was born in Whitehall, New York.  Loving to read, she penned stories and poems from a very early age.  Her interest in writing developed as young girl living in an orphanage in upstate New York, and was encouraged when she received a bronze medal in a state-wide essay contest and later a poetry contest.

After she grew up, Travis  graduated with a bachelor's of science degree from Gordon College, later earning her master's degree from Western Connecticut University.  A former teacher and college instructor of English, Travis enjoys books for the stories they tell of people and places.  She writes fantasy and historical fiction, including Union Army Black, several Apple Valley Mysteries, and the Ben and Zack series.  Travis continues to search for a story seed, build it, and allow it to have a life of its own for the reader.

One of her joys today is encouraging the efforts of young writers. She has written several books for children, holds children's writing workshops, has been involved in Children's Awana clubs as a story teller, and has also lectured in Christian literature. She is a member of the Minnesota Christian Writers Guild and actively supports her church.
