This university administrator, author, and editor was born in February 1893 in Chicago, Illinois. While working at the University of Chicago as the dissertation secretary from 1930 to 1958, she realized graduate students needed a pamphlet to guide them in the proper way to write their master's thesis and doctoral dissertation. This led to what eventually became the book
A Manual for Writers of Research Papers, Theses, and Dissertations. Scholars refer to it and its style as Turabian. Extremely useful and popular, this work is now in its seventh edition. Turabian also provided a book on style for high school and college students to follow while penning their papers. At the University of Chicago, Turbania also served as the editor of official publications. Living a long life, Turabian passed away on October 25, 1987.
