John H. Walton

John H. Walton

In college Walton read a book that changed the direction of his life.  Rather than becoming an archaeologist, he decided to look deeply at the Bible's culture and literature and compare it to the ancient Near East.  Earning his M.A. in Biblical Studies and receiving his Ph.D. in Hebrew and Cognate Studies, Walton's research and work have fascinated him during his life, and he has always hoped to spark interest in the Old Testament through teaching.  Active at South Park Church in Illinois for over twenty-five years, Walton previously taught at Moody Bible Institute.  Currently he is a professor of the Old Testament at Wheaton College Graduate School, and as an author and co-author, Walton has penned Ancient Israelite Literature in Its Cultural Context and other books.
