In the Land of the Head-Hunters was written and illustrated by Edward S. Curtis, who up until now, has most commonly been recognised for his photographs in The North American Indian.
With the revival of his works, these specific pictures and text from this books, have been overlooked; probably much to the author's dismay as he took special interest in the native Americans of the Northwest. Their home was his home and it was these native Americans that inspired his entire undertaking to record their vanishing way of life.
