The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent shape, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. Chris, nicknamed Gopher, has no luck with his money-making schemes, so he agrees to be a paid companion to his next door neighbor, Admiral Clark

*****************

As soon as Chris moves to California funny things begin to happen. He hopes to earn enough money for a bike, but the Ant-farm Business and the Birdhouse Business backfire, and the sidewalk lemonade stand doesn't even slow down the joggers. All Chris earns is the nickname Gopher, tagged on him by sometimes friend, sometimes enemy, Randy. The summer looks bad for both Gopher and his dog, Tanker, until they accept the job of senior-sitting the old man next door. After they take on Admiral Clark, it looks even worse.

But who is the Admiral, really? Why does he need those binoculars? Is he exchanging secret signals with that postperson? Who's really behind the neighborhood burglaries?

It's a pretty funny business indeed as Gopher, Tanker and the Admiral become involved in one complication after another. Their efforts land them in the middle of the uproarious conclusion to this adventure by Shirley Climo, illustrated by Eileen McKeating.
