Van Derhoof gained valuable business experience at PrimeBank and Foremost Insurance where he worked for over ten years. He then moved into the field of education and spent six years at Veritas Academy in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His interest in classical and Christian education encouraged him to earn his Bachelor of Religious Education from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Over the years, he spent time in the classroom, in administration, and in curriculum development. Most recently Van Derhoof served as a teacher and athletic director at Christian Leadership Academy in Michigan before he began a new job at Midland Christian School, also in Michigan, as an administrator. He and his wife have been married for 25 years and have six children.
