Can imaginative Emily make her biggest dream come true?

Spunky Emily Bartlett lives in an old farmhouse in Pitchfork, Oregon—at a time when automobiles are brand-new inventions and libraries are a luxury few small towns can afford. Her runaway imagination leads her to bleach a horse, hold a very scary sleepover, and feed the hogs an unusual treat. But can she use her lively mind to help bring a library to Pitchfork?

Adventure is pretty scarce in Pitchfork, Oregon. So why shouldn't Emily bleach Dad's old plow horse or try some of her other ideas?

"Written with Cleary's customary warmth and humor...The time of the story, about 1920, is delightfully brought to life." — Booklist

Every time I go to the library I come back with a happy face. This book is about a child named Emily, who lives in a small town with no library and not so many friends but she does not complain. "Just remember, Emily, there are people who have lived here all their lives who have never seen a library." Emily's Runaway Imagination by Beverly Cleary describes the adventures she has while the town is makeing a library. My favorite part is the scary night when a spooky thing happens. I loved this book because the silly mistakes that Emily makes are fun to read about like when she feeds rotten apples to her hogs. I think girls between eight and fourteen should read this book.
