Dick and Jane Readers

The Dick & Jane books are based on sight word books instead of phonics, and as a result, we don't recommend using them for teaching children to read. However, these books are adorable, recalling a period of America's past (from the '30s through the early '60s), and their warm illustrations and simple stories will certainly be enjoyed by some youngsters.

Because most of these books are being reprinted by Penguin Young Readers they are divided by Penguin's reading levels. Level 1 books are for emergent, or beginning, readers and level 2 books are for progressive, or more independent, readers.
