Clive Uptton

Born on March 12, 1911, in London, Uptton went on to gain an education from Brentwood Grammar School, Southend Art School, and Central Art School, and by age 19, he submitted artwork professionally.  Years later he added an extra "t" to his last name to distinguish himself from others with the same name.  A contributor to numerous, major magazines, Uptton worked as a political cartoonist, designed book jackets, drew illustrations for book publishers, created artwork for advertisements, and won prizes for his posters.  He gained fame for his drawings of D-Day landing and a kneeling soldier in a church.  Uptton painted landscapes and portraits as well.  This left-handed artist and right-handed writer was a modest man with a sense of humor who passed away on February 11, 2006, in London.
