Christian Light Education

Christian Light Education (CLE) is the division of Christian Light Publications that produces a high quality Mennonite curriculum for Christian schools and home school families. They and Rod & Staff are the primary curriculum providers for that home school demographic. And along with School of Tomorrow (PACE curriculum) and Alpha Omega Publications (LIFEPAC), CLE is one of the three major publishers of unit-based curriculum with their "LightUnit" workbooks.

Easy to use and inexpensive, CLE LightUnits have a pretty wide and enthusiastic following. While we have heard mostly positive comments about it over the years, CLE has been in the process of revising their curriculum to the "Sunrise" editions, and we've been waiting until enough of it is revised to start including it on our site. We're taking the time now.

Not being Mennonites ourselves, we do have concerns (some subtle, others less so) about several articles in their statement of belief. The subtle concerns primarily come down to issues of piety and Christian liberty, and our questions would revolve around the gospel vs. perceived works-based righteousness. Some of their more obvious distinctives are things like the Christian woman's head covering, marriage being indissoluble by man, and their pacifist non-involvement in the affairs of earthly governments. While we don't think these beliefs are outside the bounds of orthodoxy, we at Exodus do hold different positions and thus don't offer their Bible curriculum.
