Born in 1930 to parents of the Mennonite Brethren tradition in New Jersey, Waltke grew up and earned his A.B. from Houghton College, his Th.M. and Th. D. from Dallas Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. from Harvard University. A former president of the Evangelical Theological Society, Waltke is a Reformed Evangelical professor of the Old Testament and Hebrew. He served on several translation committees, including that of the
New American Standard Bible, has co-edited several works, and has penned several books such as
Intermediate Hebrew Grammar,
Finding the Will of God, and
Old Testament Theology. A frequent traveler, Waltke has also supervised evacuations in Israel and directed field trips to the Middle East and the Classical World.
