The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. Black Courage is a book about boys and men who really lived in the great American West. All these people lived exciting adventures, and they were very brave. Because they lived in a wild, untamed land, they had to be tough.

Some of these stories have happy endings; some of them do not. Some of the people in these stories climbed mountains and crossed rivers that nobody ever crossed before. Some rode broncos never ridden before. Others dug for gold, sailed the seas, went on exploring expeditions, fought in wars, or started towns in the wilderness.

Some of these men had strange names like "Bloody Arm" and "Old Cut Nose," and some had simple names like Andy, Sam and Bose. Some had long names like James Beckworth and some, like "Black Whiteman." had no recorded names at all.

The only thing that is the same about these stories is that they are all about black Americans.
