The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

Miss Paulmier has selected the material for this anthology from the works of more than sixty authors biographers, novelists, and poets. She has chosen the stories, incidents, anecdotes and poems which "best illustrate Lincoln's faith in the principles of American democracy, his love for his fellow men and his courage and persistence in overcoming the obstacles of extreme poverty and lack of formal education." Included are selections by Carl Sandburg, W. H. Herndon, Benjamin P. Thomas, Edwin Markham, Walt Whitman, Alfred Kreymborg, Ben Ames Williams, James Whitcomb Riley and many others equally well known.

The material is arranged chronologically. Starting with the day Lincoln was born, covering the significant periods in his childhood and youth, the presidency, the Civil War, and finally his assassination, it offers not only a well-rounded picture of his life, but a keen understanding of the characteristics that mark him as a great man.

A section of speeches and quotations, and a Lincoln Calendar, make this a useful reference work as well as a source of rewarding reading for young people.
