A young girl is afraid of thunder, but her Babushka is very wise and knows a way to help her granddaughter discover how brave she is. We’re going to make a Thunder Cake! She says. The two of them set off to gather the ingredients. From milking the mean kicking cow to climbing the high trellis to reach the tomatoes, the little girl accomplishes a number of tasks that she previously was afraid of, all the while counting the miles between thunder claps and trying to finish the cake before the storm passes.
By the time all the ingredients are gathered and the cake is all made, the little girl realizes that if she could do all of those scary things by herself, she has no reason to be afraid of a mere sound. Complete with a recipe for Thunder cake, this is yet another heart-warming story from beloved author Patricia Polacco’s past.
