Amelia Bedelia is Mr. and Mrs. Roger’s new maid, and she has a big list of things to do while they are away. But they sure do ask her to do strange things! The list says to dust the furniture, draw the drapes, and dress the turkey. And Amelia Bedelia does just that: she carefully sprinkles dust all over the furniture; she takes out a pad of paper and draws a beautiful picture of the drapes; and she wastes no time taking out a needle and thread and making a nice little suit to dress the turkey with. Needless to say, when Mr. and Mrs. Roger get home, they weren’t expecting Amelia to take their instructions quite so literally!

But Amelia Bedelia has a special talent and has taken time to do something that was not on the list. When Mr. and Mrs. Roger taste her lemon meringue pie, they forget about the mess Amelia has made. . . Mrs. Roger will be very careful to rephrase her instructions from now on!

I like the book. It is funny because Amelia Bedelia takes instructions literally. For example when she is told to change the towels she cuts them to change them instead of getting different towels. Amelia does lots of strange things like that.

In our household, Amelia Bedelia has always been synonymous with silly things. You tell her to stake the beans, and she ties steaks to the beans. Or dust the furniture and she spreads dust all over! After reading I always determined that I would listen better to my mother's instructions!
It a hilarious, fun book, and I don't think it will harm your children's chores.
