The Portland Police Sunshine Division is a non-profit emergency food relief organization operated under the guidance and authority of the Portland Police Bureau. The Division maintains a civilian Board of Directors with the assistance of one sergeant paid for and supported by the Police Bureau. The Division has been in operation since the early 1920s and continues to offer emergency food relief as a result of generous donations of food, cash, and services offered by local businesses and the general public.
This book is a brief history of the formative years of the Portland Police Sunshine Division, with an eye on the development of long-held traditions of the Division as well as the commitment of the City of Portland to encourage creative, community-oriented police services.
