From the introduction:
The study of geology presented here is concerned mainly with the historical geology of Oregon, with its succession of formations, and their ages as determined by fossils and relative position. A brief resume of some aspects of physical and historical geology is given, but readers should consult textbooks of geology to gain background with which to better appreciate the geology of Oregon. Where possible, technical terms are avoided and a simplified version given. References ae given so that those who desire may read the original texts.
