The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

Colorful descriptions of the everyday life of the Mexican Indians, their occupations, crafts, and religion highlight this exciting companion to another popular Book to Begin On by Margaret Farquhar, Indian Children of America.

Beginning with the earliest Indians who found their way to Mexico from the north, Mrs. Farquhar tells about the Olmecs, who left giant stone heads wherever they lived; the Mayas; the Toltecs, whose great ruler, Quetzalcoatl, taught his people to make books and ended the sacrifice of humans to the gods; and, finally, the resourceful and powerful Aztecs, who became the ruling tribe of Mexico and established a rich civilization of cities, schools, ball parks, zoos, temples, and markets there.

An especially interesting section on the upbringing and schooling of Aztec children and the striking illustrations of Mel Klapholz are certain to enhance the appeal to young readers of this complete and authentic picture of the Mexican Indians.
