It’s after World War II, and times are hard in Germany. Anna needs a new coat, but the stores are empty and there is no money to buy one. But that doesn’t discourage Anna’s mother. Trading in her valuables to pay for wool, someone to spin the wool, someone to weave the wool, and someone to sew the wool into a coat, Anna’s mother sets out to make her daughter a coat in a unique, loving way that Anna will remember forever.

  The New Coat

In the winter, Anna needs a new coat but the war does not allow them to get her one. When the war is over, they still can’t seem to get one until her mother remembers something. I love the illustrations in this book and how all of it could be something that really happened. I think this is a good book and I would recommend reading it. It makes me feel like I need to help the people who need warmth.
