Chapter Six: St. Augustine

April 21, 2007 - April 23, 2007

We arrived in St. Augustine on Saturday afternoon.  It took a while to find an affordable place to stay but we eventually found ourselves checking into a humble looking motel which turned out to be quite comfortable.  We think that it was family owned and they did a good job being cheerful and hospitable while still keeping costs down and being efficient.
After sitting all day on the beach in Venice, my feet had gotten quite toasted.  By this time they were swollen and I had trouble walking on them so we opted to hang low for the rest of the day.  Joshua enjoyed puttering around the room and we ordered pizza in.

Sunday morning we left to find a church and breakfast.  We weren't sure when the service would begin so we had gottten dressed and ready pretty early.  When we arrived at this beautiful church, the early service had already started about half an hour before.  We decided to go in anyway; we couldn't have missed too much in half an hour, right?  Wrong.  We were only in time for the offering, final song, and benediction.  We thought we might come back for the 11:00 service after finding somewhere to eat breakfast, but we had just finished eating when we heard the town clock chime eleven times.

To give my feet a rest and to let Joshua take a nap, we went back to our room for a couple hours.  Feeling refreshed, we headed out to see the fort.  There was so much to see that we didn't leave until they were ready to lock the doors.

St. George Street seemed to be the place to find food so we went back there and found a beautiful Spanish style restaurant to eat at.  Afterwards, the town seemed to be winding down and my feet were ready to be put up.  The evening was spent quietly in our room.  Eli and Joshua dipped in the pool and we went to bed so that we could get a very early start the next morning.
