Every year, one family from Ruthie’s church must pick out the perfect Christmas tree to put in the church. This year, Ruthie and her father find one, mark it with a red ribbon, and leave it till Christmas time. But Ruthie’s father has to go away to war. He’s says he’s coming home for Christmas, and that’s all Ruthie wants. Ruthie and her mother must make do with having very little money while papa is away. But when her schoolteacher announces that Ruthie will be the Christmas angel in the pageant, she needs a white dress for the part. But Ruthie’s mama will find a way, just like her papa will find a way to come home for Christmas.
This is a heartwarming tale of an Appalachian Christmas is simply but beautifully illustrated and is sure to be a favorite.
