Growing up in the Christian Reformed Church in Midland Park, New Jersey, Trouwborst later graduated from Pace University with an M.B.A. After marrying his wife Colleen, he worked as a CPA and formed a partnership with her creating their own accounting practice. Trouwborst decided to attend Bahnsen Theological Seminary and earned his master of divinity. He then served as a ruling and teaching elder in New York City at Messiah's Congregation before pastoring the Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Schenectady, New York. Trouwborst continues to preach, write, and help Colleen raise their nine children.
