It's Percy Jackson's winter break, and he and his friends plan a rescue mission to save two half-bloods trapped in a monster's castle. When the monster turns out to be a manticore (and then makes off with Annabeth), the goddess Artemis swears to hunt the monster down. But then Artemis is kidnapped—and Percy suspects the Titan Kronos. Artemis was supposed to attend the Olympian Council to persuade the gods to act against the impending threat of the Titans.
With just days left until the council meeting at the winter solstice, Percy and his friends set out to save both Artemis and Annabeth. But a sinister prophecy hangs over their heads: five half-bloods will take the quest, but one of them will be unable to escape the Titan's curse.
