Timothy J. Keller

Timothy J. Keller

May 19th: The Christian world has lost a great leader and a good man today. Timothy Keller has gone home. Rest in Peace!

Please watch this tribute from The Gospel Coalition.

In 1950 Keller entered the world in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania. His graduation from Westminster Theological Seminary with a doctorate in ministry led him to be ordained by the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). Serving as not only a pastor in Virginia, Keller also worked to plant churches for the PCA. After moving back to Pennsylvania, Keller joined the faculty of Westminster Theological Seminary where he is an adjunct professor of practical theology. Keller began writing and penned Ministries of Mercy. During this time too, Keller and his wife involved themselves in urban ministry, which would have a tremendous affect on their lives and the lives of multitudes.

PCA came to Keller in 1989 and requested that he look into planting a church in New York City. Making it happen, Keller started Redeemer Presbyterian Church. Focusing his attention on young, urban professionals, Keller has garnered their interest. Currently the church claims over 4,000 parishioners, and pastors are flocking to talk to Keller to gain insight into how he appeals to such a wide diversity of individuals. Successful in its own right, Redeemer then started a Church Planting Center in 2001 that has planted 50 Christian churches around New York City and another 50 across the United States and into Europe. Keller and his family continued to spread God's Word from their home on Roosevelt Island, New York, until, after a battle with cancer, he passed away on May 19, 2023.
