The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

This picture history tells the exciting story of how the Commonwealth of Nations came into being. It is the story of brave men and women and of their achievements. Of the Elizabethan seadogs who won control of the sea for England; of the great explorers such as Cook, Livingstone, Mary Kingsley, Mungo Park, Mackenzie, and Flinders who discovered and mapped these vast territories; of the great generals who fought for and against the British like Wolfe, Montcalm, Kitchener, Smuts, Dupleix, and Clive; of the great administrators such as Cecil Rhodes, Lord Lugard, and Warren Hastings. Above all, it is the story of the many thousands of ordinary men and women who through the centuries have sought new lands where freedom and happiness could flourish, and who have built the spirit of kinship and friendship that links the Commonwealth today.
