In the spring a spotted salamander crawled through the wet leaves of the woods and headed for the pond. The water was soon filled with many creatures—frogs, newts, snails, insects—all courting and depositing their eggs. Here the salamander courted his mate, too, and here she laid her eggs.
Mr. McClung has written and illustrated many fine nature picture books. The beautifully designed drawings on nearly every page, many in color, engage the children and assist in their learning experience.
