Benjamin Franklin's seven-year-old grandson recounts the events of his grandfather's visit to France seeking aid for the revolutionaries in America.

**********************

It is seven-year-old Benny's first big trip. He is sailing across the ocean with his grandfather. Not only is it an exciting trip, but a dangerous one too. For America is at war, and Benny is a rebel, just like his grandfather—Dr. Benjamin Franklin.

At the start of the American Revolution Benjamin Franklin went to France to ask for aid. But it took nearly two years of diplomatic maneuvering before King Louis would say Yes. In France, however, Franklin was loved and lionized by the people, who often hailed him in the streets with cries of "Vive le Bonhomme Richard!" (Long live Poor Richard!).

In this book, using authentic historical facts, F. N. Monjo has created a fictional memoir of this dramatic mission as seen through the eyes of Franklin's young grandson. The result is a rare and delightful combination: an exciting easy-to-read story, a close-up view of a vital passage in American history, and a well-rounded, human portrait of the complex genius that was Franklin himself. Brinton Turkle's illustrations reflect the charm of the central characters, as well as the book's concern for genuine detail.
