Each of four tiles contains nine divots where marbles can be placed. On your turn you can place one marble in any empty divot, and rotate one tile 90 degrees. It's pretty basic, but in the rulebook there are six pages of strategy tips, evidence that this isn't just some kiddie game to play on long car rides or facing a mirror by yourself on a lonely Saturday night.

Pentago is proof that you don't need imaginative themes, complex rules, or vivid artwork to have a fantastic game. The very spareness is what lends this one its incredible replay value.

Success is based on pure logic, but since your opponent will be a human being (we don't suggest trying to beat the Watson computer) a level of intuition is also important. Can you predict what the other person will do next? Probably not. Okay, yet another failed strategy tip from yours truly, but don't let that stand in the way of developing your own, or of becoming addicted to this simple diversion.

Review by C. Hollis Crossman
C. Hollis Crossman used to be a child. Now he is a husband and father, teaches adult Sunday school in his Presbyterian congregation, and likes weird stuff. He might be a mythical creature, but he's definitely not a centaur. Read more of his reviews here.
