Come wend your way along London's Thames River to the Globe Theatre, where seven well known Shakespearean plays are being performed. Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Macbeth, Julius Caesar, The Winter's Tale, and The Tempest, all full of Shakespeare's rich dialogue, are brought to life in Marcia Williams's signature comic-strip style teeming with splendid humor and brilliant color

Beginning in 1599. William Shakespeare's plays were performed at the Globe, a circular wooden theater. There, for a penny, an audience could stand in the open courtyard surrounding three sides of the stage and watch a play heing performed. These people, known as groundlings, were at times rude and noisy they even threw things if they didn't like what they saw! Refreshments including apples, nuts, and ale were sold by hawkers. And anyone willing to pay another penny could sit in one of the three galleries, where a roof would protect them from the sun or sudden rain.

Although they are more than four hundred years old, Shakespeare's plays are just as relevant today as they were many centuries ago Wonderfully accessible, Tales from Shakespeare will help young readers discover the treasures in Shakespeare's work and will lead them to further enjoyment of the original plays.
