Molly and her family have recently immigrated from Russia to the United States, and she is having some trouble settling in at her new school. When the teacher announces a Thanksgiving-themed homework assignment in which each student must make a pilgrim doll, Molly goes to her mother for help. However, the doll her mother makes is not a pilgrim dressed in the traditional black and white Puritan outfit, but rather one dressed the way she and Molly do. Molly is embarrassed by the doll until her mother explains that, just like the Puritans, Molly and her family left their home in search of religious freedom. Now proud of her doll, Molly goes to school and shows her classmates that "it takes all kinds of Pilgrims to make a Thanksgiving."
