Miss Read

Miss Read, in real life, is Mrs. Dora Saint, a retired schoolteacher. She first began writing after the Second World War, mainly light essays about school or country matters, for Punch, the Times Educational Supplement, and other journals. Her first book was Village School, published by Michael Joseph in England in 1955 and Houghton Mifflin in 1956.

Mrs. Saint lives with her husband in a Berkshire village where she tends her garden and, once a year, delights her ever-increasing audience with another fictional visit to her beloved Cotswold countryside.
