Once upon a time there was a very old man and a very old woman who lived in a neat little house with flowers all around. But they couldn’t be really happy, as they were quite lonely living by themselves, so the very old man sets out to find a little cat for him and his wife. But each cat that he finds is so beautiful that he feels he MUST take it home. Pretty soon, the very old man has found not just ten, or a hundred, or even a thousand, but millions and millions of cats to take home. But when they reach his neat little house, he and his wife realize that they cannot care for all these cats. What are they to do? How shall they choose among all these cats?

Wanda Gág's enchanting tale has become a classic.
