Never, nohow, and notwithstanding. And that was that. Josh McBroom refused to enter the World Champion Liar's Contest at the county fair. Especially after he'd been accused of trying to palm off the truth in the qualifying rounds.
But then McBroom's eleven children discover a gigantic footprint outside the kitchen window - a footprint so large a hog could wallow in the big toe alone. That big, flat, bony-footed footprint could only belong to a giant! At least this is what the McBroom kids believe when they plant the bean seed to lure the giant down from the clouds. What happens as that beanstalk grows in their splendiferous topsoil - shooting up quicker than chain lightning - leads all the McBrooms into a fast-moving series of events which, to the reader's delight, turn the county fair and World Champion Liar's Contest topsy-turvy.
