Sometimes maps are a rather abstract concept to young children. This book takes all the difficulty away. It explains the history of maps, in an engaging way, from ancient time through Columbus' voyages. The author then goes on to show how the world is represented by maps of various kinds. There is a page on map symbols, physical maps, politcal maps and local maps. The book is recommended for ages 7-10, however, I would use it for younger ages too. I do not think it would cover all the curriculum requirements for the said age. However, it explains difficult concepts like lines of longitude and latitude and scale in a fun and simple manner.
Wish we'd had books like this. Five stars!
