Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile

by Bernard Waber
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin
Trade Paperback, 48 pages
Price: $7.99

Lyle is a very popular crocodile on 88th street. He’s friendly to everybody and is loved by all. All, that is, except Mr. Grumps and his cat, Loretta. Loretta, for reasons unknown, is terrified of Lyle, and Lyle’s attempts to win her over only scare her more, thus earning the scorn of Mr. Grumps as well. In fact, when Lyle does some free performances in Mr. Grump’s store, Mr. Grumps goes so far as to condemn Lyle to a life in the zoo. Lyle’s old friend Signor Valenti finds a way to free Lyle from such a terrible fate, but Lyle still needs to reconcile with Mr. Grumps and Loretta. Will rescuing the dissatisfied pair from a fire prove Lyle’s good nature to them?
