Lifepac: Art - Boxed Set

(This review is for the Art Lifepac elective not the Thomas Kinkaide art course). Alpha Omega has a very good and very comprehensive art program in its upper Art elective course. It is much more than a drawing program but encompasses art design, graphic art, art theory, different art forms (sculpting, modeling, print making, cartooning, wood carving, and more) and even a smattering of art history. The suggested projects are generally benefical and easy to find materials for and are adaptable to your program. The lifepacs are not fine photographic quality so some of the paintings are not at their best (do a web search for that), but the lifepacs are good quality color grahics that do a decent job of presenting the art medium discussed. The only true negative about the course is the amount of "busy work" included in the lifepac format. I would suggest cutting down on the number of question/answer exercises, self-tests, and final lifepac tests as art should be about experiencing actual hands-on expression rather than spending a lot of time answering book type questions. We used the projects themselves to carry the grade of the course rather than the book exercises. Overall, I believe it is one of the few truly comprehensive art courses out there especially from a conservative, modest approach that seeks to glorify Christ (no immoral philosophies or unclothed models here!).
