John Willard Spellman

The collector-author of The Beautiful Blue Jay and Other Tales of India is head of the Department of Asian Studies, University of Windsor, Ontario. He was born in Tewksbury, Massachusetts, went to school in Brockton and graduated from Northeastern University in Boston. He studied the history and civilization of India at the Sorbonne, Oxford University and the University of London, where he received his Ph.D. degree.

Dr. Spellman has taught and lectured about India in both Great Britain and the United States. From 1962 to t964 he was Visiting Lecturer in Indian Politics, University of Kersala, India. Certainly his wide experience and knowledge of India and its people more than account for the skill and perceptiveness with which he has chosen and told the stories for his first book for children.
