Janice May Udry

A native of Illinois, Udry was born on June 14, 1928.  After earning her bachelor's degree from Northwestern University, Udry began writing children's books.  Her first published book called A Tree Is Nice won the Caldecott Medal for Marc Simont's illustrations.  She continued to pen several books that contained pictures by illustrators such as Maurice Sendak and Ed Young.  Udry resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
