James Lincoln Collier

An author, journalist, and jazz musician, James Lincoln Collier was born on June 27, 1928, into a family of authors. He graduated from Hamilton College in 1950. An experienced journalist, James collaborated with his brother, Christopher Collier, to produce a series of historical fiction works that would be both educational and fun for children. While Christopher, a history professor, researched the period, James wrote the stories. Their book, My Brother Sam Is Dead, was a Newbery Honor title.

James has written articles, adult novels, children's nonfiction, biographies of jazz musicians, and served as editor of a magazine. His books have been nominated for National Book Awards and the American Book Award.
