Ray Hicks (1922-2003) was a renowned Appalachian storyteller, regarded as the last authentic traditional storyteller by the time of his death. He lived his entire life on Beech Mountain, NC, but was an honored yearly invitee to the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, TN, where he was particularly known for the telling of his beloved Jack Tales. The book includes an audio cd of Hicks telling these tales in his unique dialect, accompanied by traditional local musicians.
