The books in this section are usually hardcover and in decent condition, though we'll sometimes offer hard-to-find books in lesser condition at a reduced price. Though we often put images of the book with their original dust jackets, the copies here won't always (or even often) have them. If that is important to you, please call ahead or say so in the order comments!

The story of Henry Hudson begins in mystery and ends in mystery. Little is known about this explorer except that he crowded the excitement and adventure of a lifetime into four short years.

His first voyage, in 1607, to the icy reaches of the sea around the North Pole was made in the hope of discovering a passage to China. Out of this first failure came the beginnings of England's whaling industry.

Each succeeding voyage ended in disappointment and the last in tragedy for the modest but hardy captain. What Hudson did find, although he did not realize it at the time, was a vast new territory and a great river which now bears his name.
