1856-1943
No one was more surprised than Henry A. Shute when his Real Diary of a Real Boy became a best seller after its publication in 1902. A lawyer and judge in Exeter, N. H., Shute's career as a writer did not begin until he was over forty, and he regarded his subsequent literary fame as something of a joke. The author of nearly twenty books, he was rated with Mark Twain for his faithful portrayals of boyhood life. Revival of this volume is a reminder that Judge Shute was one of the great American humorists.
