Continuing where The Light and the Glory left off, this book covers the Constitutional Convention to pre-Civil War times (from 1787 to 1837). Like its prequel, people who are just names and dates in other textbooks become flesh and blood on its pages and history comes alive. The authors explore how God's hand has moved in our country's past, giving their readers a greater appreciation for both His sovereignty and our Christian heritage. Though it is thoroughly researched and full of references to original documents, it is not an exhaustive study of this part of American history. The authors carry their Christian slant a bit far at times, glossing over or ignoring some things and making too big of a deal of others. It works well, though, as a secondary text or as an overview or refresher course.
