With over 400 Dover Coloring Books for adults and children in-stock, Exodus Books offers one of the largest selections on the West Coast. For years, Dover Publications has maintained an incredible reputation for both quality and variety. Their artists are top-notch; the books feel nice; and they cover almost any topic imaginable, to some degree or another.
At first glance, Dover Coloring Books don't look too kid-friendly. The pictures are impossibly detailed for a 3-year-old's clumsy crayoning, and there's a lot of text at the bottom of each page. Besides that, what youngster is interested in fashion of the Jacobean era? or muscle cars? or the presidents of the United States of America?
Plenty of them, actually, especially if the topics are covered as well and interactively as they are in these advanced coloring books. Granted, they aren't for little kids (more like 7-year-olds and older), and they can be complex even for adults (the pictures are quite intricate), but everyone likes to color, and the fact that the whole family can work on their art skills while learning all kinds of cool stuff have made these a hit for years.
Each book covers a fairly specific topic, like Airplanes of the Second World War or The History of the Civil Rights Movement, using accurate ready-to-color pictures and some text to reveal an important slice of history. Don't think you can tackle these with your trusty Crayolas—you'll need high quality colored pencils to even approach staying within the lines.
Because there are so many Dover Coloring Books, and because they cover such a broad range of subjects (history, fashion, warfare, science, nature study, inventions, etc.), students who get hooked on them will likely want to keep on using them long after they've outgrown more juvenile coloring books. High schoolers and even adults have been known to value their coloring time with their favorite Dover book.
The educational element can't be overstressed. Students will learn plenty of solid background as well as quirky and little-known facts in whatever field they're curious about (or that you happen to be covering in school at the time). We really can't recommend these highly enough, and are certain you'd be hard pressed to find a series as simultaneously entertaining and instructive as Dover Coloring Books.
