Selecting the right curriculum for your student(s) can be a time consuming, heart wrenching task for any family that chooses home education. But in this book, Cathy Duffy provides the tools to make choosing the right resources for your child(ren) much easier!

In 100 Top Picks, she narrows the focus and guides you through a simplified curriculum selection process with questionnaires and charts. She helps you understand your own preferences in terms of a philosophy of education, learning styles, and goal setting. And she offers her "Top Picks" from each subject area, narrowed down to a manageable number of choices. You no longer need to sort through the entire universe of products before you can find something suitable.

A major feature of 100 Top Picks is Mrs. Duffy's charts, comparing her selections in relation to educational approaches, learning styles, and practical features such as prep time needed; design for independent, one-on-one, or group learning; and ease of use for the teacher. Complete reviews of each of the Top Picks provide you with the information you need to make the best choices for each of your children.

We believe this book gives parents just the right balance of guidance and choices so they can make well-informed decisions in their curriculum purchases, and we recommend it highly. 100 Top Picks condenses much of the most valuable information from her two volume Curriculum Manual, and makes the information that much more accessible. Her website is also an extremely valuable reference.

If You're Confused About Curriculum, Pick Up This

Most homeschooler's go through some stage where they really struggle to find the right fit for their family, or a particular child. Cathy Duffy starts her book by describing the various learning snd teaching styles. Thereafter the reader gets a type of quiz to complete, and the results show what type of programs would be suitable for your situaion. The remainder of the book is dedicated to reviews of various curriculum. Whilst I found these helpful, you are not going to find, for example, a review on using all of Abeka. Cathy has chosen her top 100 picks, so whilst there where several top picks from some publishers, such as Modern Curriculum Press, some where not selected at all, like Christian Light, which I think deserves a better review than her website gives it. I also felt the section of umbrella, complete curriculum was poorly represented. However if you're happy to mix and match from a variety of publishers, this is a great resource. Duffy includes helpful comments in her reviews that could save time and money. She states where the Teacher manual is essential and where it is a waste of money. She gives good tips about teacher manuals that she likes, and also criticism to areas she thought could be improved in curriculum. I think the book probably needs a review and update by now, as things change soo quickly onthe homeschool front.
