The People, Places & Principles of America is a 4-volume history of the United States for elementary to high school. Volume III covers the 19th century, breaking significant events into topic headings like "military," "family & home," "agriculture," "industry & medicine," etc. The text is straightforward—just text to be read by students with black and white illustrations (including photographs, maps and clip art). Activities, Quizzes & Tests is a consumable text providing pages of written assignments and section-by-section tests. The Answer Keys book provides answers to all work from all four volumes of the series.
This isn't just history—the authors are Christians devoted to instilling godly character in students, and whenever possible bring attention to Christian heroes (like Harriet Tubman or the Whitmans). Figures without religious convictions are quoted if they had something to say that reflected Christian values. There isn't a particular denominational bias in the material, but there is a political bias, the authors clearly presenting a right-wing Conservative attitude toward the size of government, the extent of human liberty, etc. The writing style is engaging and appropriate for a range of ages, though for older students you may want to supplement with extra assignments like further reading or essays.
