Geography Songs with CD

The newly updated Geography Songs Kit includes 33 songs; a workbook with maps, lyrics, illustrations and tests; and a 25" x 36" world map. The songs teach the names and locations of the continents, oceans, planets, and 225 countries. It includes famous landmarks and maps to label and color. The maps are numbered in the same order that they are sung in the songs. This makes it easy to locate the countries while you are singing. Some songs are about just one country, others are about a whole continent. Fun for all ages!

A teacher from New Hampshire (Kit Debnar) graciously offers her outline to accompany Geography Songs. In advance, the teacher may wish to play the songs (first track on the British Isles, for example), as background music a few times, to familiarize everyone with the tunes.

Monday	Introduce the British Isles using big black/white outline map (included). Have child finger trace an outline of the area. Show British Isles on a big colored wall map. Have each child locate and finger trace the area. Look at the pictures in workbook as CD plays, (pg.1,2,3,4). 1x Talk about the meanings of all pictures. Follow words in workbook pg.1, while listening to CD(tape). 2x.
Tuesday	Sing words along with CD. 2x. Trace map very carefully in pencil while listening. 1x. Color neatly, Northern Ireland green, England red, etc. while listening. 1x.
Wednesday	Sing words along with CD. 2x. Point to Northern Ireland, England, etc. in workbook p. 3 while listening. 1x. Color area on black/white outline map while listening. 1x.
Thursday	Sing words along with CD. 2x. Add physical features (major rivers, lakes mountain areas) while listening. Study map while listening. 3x.
Friday	Test - Each child fill in blank map with names of all 8 areas, with physical features.

  Must Buy for Every Homeschool

I seldom find a product and think that this is a must-buy for every homeschool, but this is one. We have all learnt so much about geography from this cd. The songs are well written and very catchy, and obviously easy to remember. We have had such fun finding the various countries on the map. My older child enjoyed the book and the map. He will listen with the map spread out and the book open. We have even used the cd in the car for travel entertainment. The songs have helped me locate places, as I just recall the song in my head and then find it. Excellent value, thank you.

Geography Songs are catchy little ditties to help you memorize the continents, oceans, planets (Pluto is still a planet in the song), countries of each continent (most have several songs, dividing the countries up by region), and all 50 states (but not capitals).

The book that comes with the CD has the lyrics and maps (printed, not blank) so you can follow along.

A couple times a week we would listen and try singing along to the songs (we did approximately one continent per 6-week term), sometimes looking at the map and sometimes just listening and singing as the kids colored country coloring pages.

This program is great for exposure to names and countries. Like practically any memory work set to music, the tunes quickly become annoying, but that's just part of the gig. Annoying memory songs seem to be effective.
